9 OUT OF 10 CRIME CASES SOLVED IN 2004; CRIME RATE AMONG LOWEST RECORDED IN YEARS The Philippine National Police today said the efficiency of police in solving crime remains above par based on national standards. PNP Spokesman, Senior Superintendent Leopoldo N Bataoil maintained that the PNP's Crime Solution Efficiency rating of 90.4% in 2004 remains within the ideal mark. “This Crime Solution Efficiency (CSE) rating translates to “nine out of every ten” crime incidents solved,” Bataoil said. Consistently, the PNP has recorded CSE ratings within the 90-95% mark over the last six years. Although the CSE recorded in 2004 was slightly lower by 1.15% compared to the CSE scored by the PNP in year 2003, Bataoil said the variance is “tolerable and its significance to the overall peace and order situation has been off-set by the 10% reduction in Total Crime Volume for the year.” The PNP recorded only 64,165 crime incidents in 2004. This represents a marked improvement from the 71,162 crime incidents recorded in 2003. Bataoil further explained that the nationwide 7.78 Average Monthly Crime Rate (AMCR) for 2004 is among the lowest crime rates recorded in the country's law enforcement history. The crime rate for 2004 was 11.49% lower than the 8.79 AMCR recorded in 2003. AMCR is the internationally accepted measure of the crime situation that shows the monthly rate of crime per 100,000 population. “The reduction in crime volume and crime rate describes the efficiency of our ongoing anti-crime efforts,” Bataoil said. “But although our efficiency in solving crime cases is high, we want to put more attention on the preventive aspect of crime control,” he said. |
