PNP CANCELS XMAS PARTY; OFFERS DAY OF PRAYER FOR TYPHOON VICTIMS

The First Couple will lead a simultaneous “Day of Prayer” in all PNP camps and offices in the country on December 20, 2004 in memory of the victims of the tragic environmental disaster in eastern Luzon .

PNP Chief, Director General Edgar B Aglipay has cancelled the scheduled traditional PNP Christmas Party on December 20th and instead offered the occasion as a “Day of Prayer.”

The First Couple will join PNP personnel in a field mass that will be celebrated at the Camp Crame parade grounds. Simultaneous masses will also be celebrated in all PNP camps in the country.

The PNP Chief said all funds intended for the PNP Christmas Party will be donated instead to victims of the calamity in other disaster-stricken areas in addition to the earlier donation of relief supplies to disaster victims in Nueva Ecija and Aurora province.

During height of the twin typhoons, Aglipay ordered the cancellation of the PNP Command Conference in Cebu City. The funds intended for the meeting were given to Provincial Directors in areas hardest hit by the calamity.

While in Camp Crame , President Arroyo will lead the ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of a barracks that can house 110 Police Non-Commissioned Officers.

Mrs. Arroyo will also formally inaugurate the newly constructed Women Police Office quarters inside Camp Crame .

The First Couple will formally turnover to the PNP the supervision of Day-Care Center for dependents of PNP personnel, a project initiated by the First Gentleman.

Presidential daughter Luli, will also witness the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement between the PNP, represented by the Chief PNP, and the Couples for Christ (CFC) movement, represented by Director Francisco Padilla.

The PNP-CFC MOA seeks to strengthen joint efforts in the anti-illegal drugs campaign of government thru the infusion of moral values, and mobilization of the community for crime reporting.
