P N P News Release No. 04-1211 |
PNP OBSERVES TRAFFIC HOLIDAY In order to ensure stable prices and a steady supply of consumer goods this Christmas season, the PNP, together with the MMDA and LTO, shall enforce a “Traffic Holiday” wherein Traffic Law Enforcers nationwide are directed to refrain from accosting delivery trucks transporting consumer products. The said project will take effect immediately and will last until January 6, 2004. The project seeks to prevent ‘kotong' activities being perpetrated by scalawags who mulct from delivery trucks, especially during peak seasons. Such practices hike the prices of goods and delay the delivery of perishable products. However, the PNP will continue it's anti-hijacking campaign through enhanced security measures anchored on intelligence, target hardening, and incident management. Trucks suspected of carrying contraband items will be required to stop at designated stop over points. After the holiday season, concerned agencies together with the Department of agriculture and the Department of Trade and Industry will evaluate the effects of the project and will submit recommendations that are feasible throughout the year.
