10 MORE FILIPINO COPS JOIN UN MISSION IN KOSOVO The Philippine National Police today sent-off ten more Filipino policemen to join the United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK). The ten PNP members, led by Chief Inspector Remigio Gregorio will fly via commercial flight from the NAIA at 6:40 PM today. They will join 80 other Filipino policemen who are currently serving as Civilian Police personnel under the multi-national UNMIK peace-keeping efforts. According to PNP Spokesman, Chief Superintendent Joel R Goltiao, the deployment of Filipino policemen in United Nations peace-keeping missions is an international commitment of the Philippine government that the PNP fully supports. The PNP Contingent Commander in Kosovo, Superintendent Willy Tolentino, will welcome the ten newly-assigned Filipino policemen upon their arrival in the capital province of Pristina . The UN had earlier requested for the deployment of additional Filipino policemen in Kosovo for law enforcement, border control, and other police duties. Some of them will also serve as trainors for the local Kosovo Police Service. At present, there are 30 other Filipino policemen serving under a similar UN peace-keeping mission in Liberia . Another group of 16 Filipino policemen are in East Timor serving as Civilian Police personnel under the UN Mission in Support of East Timor (UNMISET). Filipino policemen had served with distinction in similar UN missions in Cambodia and Haiti. |
