155 COPS COMPLETE COMMANDO TRAINING

Some 155 police personnel, 62 of them policewomen, today successfully completed the Commando Course of the elite PNP Special Action Force. The Special Action Force is the mobile strike unit of the PNP specialized in both urban and jungle warfare, and counter-terrorist operations.

PNP Chief, Director General Hermognes E Ebdane Jr., himself a former commander of the elite Special Action Force, officiated the graduatiuon ceremonies today of SAF Commando Course Classes 25-2003 and 29-2004 in Camp Crame.

In his keynote address, the PNP Chief urged the graduates to harness their newly acquired knowledge and skills in neutralizing threats to public safety and security. “Our government cannot concentrate on the task of economic development and political stability without peace and order,” Ebdane said as he underscored the role of SAF as the “cutting edge” in the PNP's campaign against terrorism, insurgency, and organized crime. Among the 155 graduates were 62 policewomen who composed the Commando-25 class.

According to SAF Director, Chief Superintendent Silverio Alarcio, the all-women class took 11 months to complete the course, which normally takes about six months. Commando-29, on the otherhand, completed the course just recently ith a successful test mission in Zambales last month against a large group of local communist terrorist.

Three NPA terrorists were killed and four others were captured in that encounter. The same ceremony also served as recognition rites for Class 24-2003 that graduated earlier, and whose members are now integrated into the regular SAF Units.
