COPS FOIL HOLD-UP OF MONEYCHANGER SHOP; 3 SUSPECTS ARRESTED

PNP Chief, Director General Edgar B Aglipay today announced the arrest of three members of a notorious robbery/hold-up gang operating in Metro Manila.

Arrested by combined elements of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) were: Dandy EMPESTAN y Bantolo, 41, of Valenzuela City; Allan COMPETENTE y Puerta, 29, of Novaliches, Quezon City; and Noel FERREROS y Concepcion, 32, OF San Jose, Bulacan.

The trio were part of a 5-man group who attempted to rob the MICO Moneychanger Shop at the Sta. Monica Plaza in Ermita at 4:00PM last Friday.

Unknown to the suspects, a composite police team from the CIDG-NCR led by Supt. Nelson Yabut, and RIID-NCRPO led by Chief Inspector Eduardo Kempis where already tailing them.

The three suspects were promptly arrested as they pulled out their weapons. The suspects yielded three cal.38 revolvers. Two of their companions managed to escape.

According to CIDG Chief, Director Arturo C Lomibao, the operation is in line with the policy guidelines of the PNP Chief to account for at least 5% of wanted persons and members of organized crime groups per month.

Lomibao said the group is responsible for a string of robbery/hold-up cases in Metro Manila.

For his part, NCR-CIDU Chief, Sr. Supt. Federico Laciste believes that the group is behind other similar robberies in the city and is urging those who have been victimized to come forward and identify the suspects in custody.
