PNP Chief, Director General Edgar B Aglipay today led the formal ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of the PNP Salaam Police Center in Camp Crame .

The PNP Engineering Service will supervise the contruction of the P17-million 2-storey structure funded by the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC).

The Salaam Police, composed of Muslim PNP personnel, was organized to harmonize the relationship of the PNP with the Muslim community.

President Arroyo ordered the creation of the Salaam Police to support the government's anti-terrorism and anti-criminality campaign.

The PNP Salaam Police is currently headed by Senior Superintendent Sahiron Dulah Salim, a bemedalled police officer and a respected Muslim religious leader.

According to Aglipay, the establishment of the Salaam Police Center demonstrates the firm resolve of the PNP to strengthen unity and solidarity with all Muslim communities in the country.

“Our goal is to facilitate dialogue with our Muslim brothers and sisters, so that we can thresh out problems related to peace and order,” Aglipay said.

“More than anything else, we want to emphasize what we have in common, rather than what divides us, so that we can live in harmony and in peace,” the PNP Chief said.

The Salaam Police Center will be erected at the northside of Camp Crame . It will have a total floor area of 1,229 square meters. The ground floor will house the administrative and operations offices of the Salaam Police.

The located at the second floor is a library and prayer room.
