AGLIPAY LEADS LIFESTYLE CHECK FOR POLICE OFFICIALS

Setting an example for other police officials to follow, PNP Chief, Director General Edgar B Aglipay today volunteered to be subjected to a “lifestyle check” by any competent government body. “I welcome any inspection of my personal lifestyle to find out if I am living beyond my means as a PNP general,” Aglipay told a radio interview this morning.

As the highest police official, Aglipay said he wants to set the example for other police officers to live a life of decency and modesty. Aglipay has adapted the principle of “leadership by example” as one of his policy guidelines as Chief PNP under his C.A.R.E. program or Courtesy, Action, Results, and Example. Popular calls to subject police officials to a “lifestyle check” were aired as an offshoot of the ongoing investigation into alleged fund anomalies in the Armed Forces.

“The statements of assets and liabilities of all government officials and personnel are public documents that may be scrutinized by any investigating agency in the interest of public service,” the PNP Chief said.

For his part, PNP Spokesman, Senior Superintendent Leopoldo N Bataoil said that “lifestyle check” is a continuous administrative activity in the PNP that is undertaken in compliance to existing rules and regulations. “Foremost among the working parameters in the so-called ‘lifestyle check' is the strict adherence of PNP personnel to the Code of Professional Conduct and Ethical Standards,” Bataoil said.

“If one is personally convinced that his lifestyle complies with the Code of Professional Conduct and Ethical Standards, perhaps he may consider himself clean,” Bataoil said. The PNP-Internal Affairs Service is tasked to conduct the periodic “lifestyle check” and performance evaluation on PNP personnel and Units.

Bataoil cited the fact that the PNP auditors, accountants, and internal affairs investigators are all civilian officials whose duties are to insure utmost transparency in all transactions in the PNP.
