PGMA OKs FUND FOR HOUSING OF ORPHANED KIN OF SLAIN COPS; VP DE CASTRO UNVEILS LOW-COST PNP HOUSING IN RIZAL President Arroyo has approved the release of P3-million from the President's Social Fund to the Philippine National Police for housing assistance to families of 67 policemen who were killed “in line of duty.” The amount is in addition to the P6-million earlier released by Malacañang for the project, which costs some P12-million. PNP Chief, Deputy Director General Edgar B Aglipay expressed grateful appreciation to the president for the manifestation of concern for the morale and welfare of PNP personnel. A total of 67 families of PNP personnel killed in action during police operations will benefit from the project, Aglipay said. Meanwhile, Vice President Noli de Casto today unveiled a low-cost housing project for PNP personnel in Pinugay, Baras, Rizal. De Castro, who is also Chairman of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) said this is in support of the Arroyo government's flagship program to provide affordable housing to Filipinos. Also present during the groundbreaking ceremony today were DILG Secretary Angelo T Reyes, PNP Chief DDGen. Edgar Aglipay, and Rizal Governor Casimiro Yñares Jr. According to PNP Spokesman, Senior Superintendent Leopoldo N Bataoil, the low-cost housing project is available to PNP personnel on affordable installment terms thru Pag-Ibig fund and other government and private financing institutions. Bataoil said the availability of the low-cost housing units to PNP personnel was the result of negotiations initiated by the Deputy Director General Reynaldo V Velasco, PNP Deputy Chief for Operations, with the developers of the housing project under the “Pabahay at Pangkabuhayan” program. The program is an expanded housing and livelihood project jointly undertaken by the PNP, Flying V, Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), Philippine Exporters Confederation, Employers Confederation of the Phil's (ECOP), Federation fo Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry Inc. (FFCCCII), the Federation of Philippine Industries (FPI), and transport organizations.
