P N P News Release No. 04-0906 |
UNITY FOR PNP REFORM Police officials today urged all concerned sectors to unite behind the new PNP leadership's program of reform. The call was sounded as the National Police Commission officially confirmed the 6-month extended term of PNP Chief, Deputy Director General Edgar B Aglipay. Re-designated PNP Spokesman, Senior Superintendent Leopoldo N Bataoil said “unity of purpose to push for reforms in the PNP” is the more reasonable move to take instead of questioning the legality of the Chief PNP's extension. According to Bataoil, the officers and men of the PNP are fully supportive of the new PNP leadership particularly the reform program initiated by Aglipay. Asked whether those opposed to Aglipay's extension should bring their case to court, Bataoil said, “such move will only sidetrack our attention from the more important task of accomplishing our mission.” However, Bataoil said, such moves will not derail the PNP's resolve in instituting internal reforms in the PNP. These reforms have so far produced very encouraging results and have drastically improved overall police performance, he said. Bataoil added that the underlying consideration in this reform program i s to regain the people's trust and confidence on the police.
