LOMIBAO PROMOTES 6 QC COPS IN HOSTAGE DRAMA

PNP Chief, Director General Arturo C Lomibao yesterday promoted six Quezon City policemen for successfully neutralizing an armed suspect who held four persons hostage during a 30-minute standoff in Cubao.

Lomibao yesterday presented a bed-side award of the Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting to PO2 Jon-Jon Jano of the Central Police District Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) who was wounded during Sunday's incident.

Jano is now recovering at the St. Luke's Hospital from a gunshot wound. He was shot by hostage-taker Rosauro Inocencio with a cal.38 handgun.

He and five other members of the CPD-SWAT and Mobile Patrol Unit were cited for “bravery at great risk of life.” The PNP Chief ordered their meritorious promotion to the next higher rank.

They are: SPO2 Crisanto Gerosa of the CPD Mobile Patrol Unit (MPU), and CPD-SWAT operatives PO3 Eulogio Antonio Jr. , PO3 Jonathan Taguba , PO2 Elmer Lipata , and PO1 Butch Raginding of CPD Station-7.

PNP Spokesman, Chief Superintendent Leopoldo N Bataoil said the meritorious promotion is in recognition of the exemplary courage and outstanding performance of duty displayed by the policemen.

According to CPD Director, Chief Superintendent Nicasio J Radovan Jr., the crew of mobile patrol QC-72 led by Gerosa was responding to the reported sighting of an armed man along Imperial St..

When accosted, suspect Rosauro Inocencio fired his handgun at the policemen and sought refuge at No. 104 Imperial St. and held hostage the four house occupants including a nanny and her 1-year old ward.

The SWAT team was later called-in to flush out Inocencio with tear gas, but the suspect readily put up a futile fight and died in the process.
