PNP HITS HARD ON NPA IN CORDILLERA

Meritorious promotions were given today to 12 officers and men of the Police Regional Office-Cordillera (PRO-COR) for the capture of five communist insurgents and the killing of two others during a recent encounter in Benguet.

PNP Chief, Director General Arturo C Lomibao was in Camp Dangwa in La Trinidad, Benguet today where he awarded medals to the PNP personnel involved in the encounter with NPA terrorists in Sitio Bad-ayan, Baculongan Sur, Buguias, Benguet last Monday afternoon.

Promoted to the next higher rank were: Chief Inspector Brent Madjaco, Inspector Jose Lupao, SPO4 Wilfredo Tugade, SPO2 Roberto Alcantara, SPO1 Arturo Fernandez Jr., PO3 Allyson Kalang-ad, PO3 Sanil Bugnay Jr., PO3 Dexter Mendoza, PO3 Eduardo Alipio, PO3 Randall Sagorsor, PO3 Rolic Sabyat, and PO2 Johnson Gacayon.

Kalang-ad was wounded in the encounter and was awarded the Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting by the PNP Chief at the Benguet Medical Center . Thirty-five other PNP personnel who composed the operating team were awarded the Medalya ng Katapangan.

PRO-COR Director, Chief Superintendent Noe Wong said those cited were part of the police team from the 1604 th Provincial Mobile Group of Benguet that clashed with a group of local communist terrorists led by Marcelo DAWAYAN alias Ka Suktan.

According to Wong, Dawayan and a certain Ka Rudy were killed in the almost two-hour gunbattle with government troops. Captured during the encounter were Vicente MASADAO alias Gil, Antonio BAGSAO alias Boy, Gina TABLING alias Sid, Fernando GOROSPE alias Ryan, and Roda GOROSPE alias Tina.

Seized from the NPA terrorists were six (6) M-16 rifles , an M-203 grenade launcher , a cal.30 US carbine , 681 rounds of assorted ammunition, 12 rounds of 40mm grenade cartridges, assorted medicines, personal belongings, and NPA documents of high intelligence value.

Internal security operations by government forces were intensified in the Cordillera following the reported sighting of NPA terrorists in Mangkayan, Benguet who were reportedly taking advantage of the situation at the strike-bound Lepanto Mines.
