PNP HONORS POLICE ATHLETES IN 23RD SEA GAMES
Nine police athletes including two Gold Medalists in the just concluded 23rd Southeast Asian Games were honored today at the PNP National Headquarters in Camp Crame.
During the traditional Monday flag-raising rites, PNP Chief, Director General Arturo C Lomibao, announced the promotion of Senior Inspector Nelson Pacalso and PO3 Mitchel Martinez to the next higher rank in recognition of their athletic achievement in contributing to the 113 gold medals garnered by Team Philippines.
Pacalso won the gold medal in Karatedo 65-kg division, while Martinez won the gold medal in the lightweight division in women’s boxing.
Lomibao also presented award for sports excellence to other PNP athletes who won runner-up titles in different sports events. They are:
- PO2 Christopher Yabut, Silver medalist in Pencak Silat 55-kg division
- PO2 Reneto Tuñacao, Silver medalist in full-contact Arnis
- PO2 Junel Perania, Bronze medalist in Karatedo 70-kg division
- PO2 Juvy Jumuad, Bronze medalist in Pencak Silat, 70-kg division
- PO1 Henbert Ortalla, Bronze medalist in Table Tenni
“We are giving due recognition to our PNP athletes and all members of Team Philippines for bringing glory to the country,” Lomibao said.
The PNP was represented in the Philippine Team by nine athletes and eight members of the coaching and training staff in various events of the competition.
During the same ceremony, Lomibao presented awards to PNP officers and personnel of Task Force SEA Games led by Deputy Director General Avelino Razon Jr. and Police Director Rodolfo Tor in acknowledgement of their efforts in insuring the safety of delegates to the international sporting event.

- Supt Peter Rosano P Donato, Directorate for Operations
Also cited for their individual roles in Task Force SEA Games are: PO3 Florante D Yu, PO2 Argyl C Taleon, PO2 Glenn B Balauat, PO1 Marwin C Pacapac, and PO1 Aurelio P Alabado.
