10 OUTSTANDING POLICEWOMEN OF THE PHILIPPINES The Philippine National Police and Zonta Club International today announced the winners in the annual search for the Ten Outstanding Policewomen of the Philippines (TOPWP) 2004. President Arroyo, assisted by PNP Chief, Director General Arturo C Lomibao and presented the awards to the winners during simple ceremonies in Malacañang this morning. Later, a luncheon in honor of the awardees was hosted by the PNP Chief in Camp Crame . The TOPWP awardees each received the Kabalikat trophy and cash incentive from Zonta Club, the Outstanding Achievement Medal from the PNP, and a sidearm pistol from co-sponsor Arms Corporation of the Philippines . In his brief remarks, Lomibao said recognitions such as the TOPWP “raise the standards of performance and strengthen the organization as a whole by maintaining a high state of morale among the ranks.” “You certainly are the pride, not only of the Women Police Service, but of the entire 115,000-strong Philippine National Police, and of every Filipino woman,” Lomibao told the awardees. The awardees are: Chief Inspector Sotera P Macatangay, CIDG Chief Inspector Fe P Quibol, PRO-2 Senior Inspector Marilou G Aboloc, Health Service Senior Inspector Lina L Avelino, Crime Laboratory PRO-11 Police Inspector Rhea E Santos , PACER Police Inspector Joy E Tomboc, DHRDD SPO2 Erma B Jabal, PACER PO3 Mayla Perla G Gavina, Pangasinan PPO PO3 Fe S Polas, Baguio City Police Office PO2 Yolanda A Maberit, Palawan PPO According to PNP Spokesman, Chief Superintendent Leopoldo N Baataoil, the PNP offers equal service opportunities for both men and women consistent with the provisions of Republic Act 7192 , otherwise known as the Women in Development and Nation Building Act. There are currently 8,733 women in the active police service, representing 7.6% of the total number uniformed PNP personnel, Bataoil said.
