PRESS STATEMENT OF THE CPNP ON COMMAND CONFERENCE ON THE ILLEGAL GAMBLING CAMPAIGN

We are holding today a command conference among members of the Command Group, Directorial Staff, selected Regional Directors, and Directors of National Support Units including the Task Force Commander of the PNP Anti-illegal Gambling Special Operations Task Force and the different task groups under him, to assess the ongoing nationwide campaign against the illegal numbers games in compliance with the order of the Her Excellency President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

It is worthy to note that so far, this campaign against jueteng and other forms of illegal gambling has been “sustained the longest in recent years,” and it is holding on.

But as we have been saying all along, we also need the continuing cooperation and support from all sectors because problem is confounded by too many socio-economic and often political factors, some of which are simply beyond the realm of law enforcement to address. That is why we need the active participation and cooperation of everyone in this police campaign.

It is our desire to enlist the active support of the different sectors in this undertaking to insure success of the campign thru a total multi-sectoral approach strategy.

For our part in the PNP, we are strictly implementing the one-strike policy on jueteng and other forms of illegal numbers games. We have in fact relieved from post some Chiefs of Police and a Provincial Director as a result.

In today's conference, we would like to find out how our vigilance is holding against syndicated jueteng activities that we were able to put out of commission when we initiated aggressive interdiction operations last month.
