POLICE CAPTAIN BAG SEA GAMES GOLD IN KARATEDO Senior Inspector Nelson Pacalso bagged the gold medal in Karatedo this morning to become the first PNP athlete to win the top award in the 23rd SEA Games. Amid cheers from the crowd at the Mandaue Coliseum in Cebu , Pacalso defeated the Vietnamese finalist in the 65-kilogram weight division 5-4 to clinch the crown. Pacalso's big victory in Karatedo advanced the Philippines ' medal standing to 29 gold, 12 silver and 17 bronze medals. Six PNP athletes are in the official line-up of the 743-man Philippine Team to the 23rd SEA Games. Twelve other PNP personnel are participating as members of coaching and training staff. Aside from Pacalso, the other PNP members in the national team are: PO2 Reneto Tuñacao , Arnis full contact 71kgs; Asian women's boxing bronze medalist PO3 Mitchel Martinez (lightweight 60kgs); PO3 Junel Perania , Karatedo 70 kgs.; PO2 Christopher Yabut of NCRPO, Pencak Silat Class B 50-55 kgs.; and SPO2 Susan Aguado , 25m Sports Pistol & 10m Air Pistol. PNP Spokesman, Chief Superintendent Leopoldo N Bataoil said a grand welcome awaits Pacalso and the other PNP athletes upon their return to Camp Crame.
