PRESS STATEMENT OF POLICE DIRECTOR GENERAL ARTURO C LOMIBAO

I commend all the officers, men and women of the entire Philippine National Police for a job well done, involved especially the commanders on the ground in the Civil Disturbance Management operations at the Batasan Complex yesterday, for the professional handling of the mass actions.

We have proven once again the reliability and dependability of the PNP in providing a stable condition for the legislative branch of our government to exercise its mandate.

While the PNP respects the freedom of expression of every individual, I appeal to the leaders and participants of these mass actions to maintain sobriety and uphold the rule of law.

I also appeal to the organizers to police their own ranks to prevent infiltration by provocateurs of violence. Our policy of maximum tolerance remains inviolable and our communication lines are always open for dialogue.

I would also like to remind our police officers of my standing order for strict adherence to the Chain of Command. Let us not allow ourselves to be unwittingly swayed by some quarters to promote their vested interests.

The PNP will remain united behind the Chain of Command, loyal to the flag and the Constitution, and respectful of the lawful orders of the duly constituted authority under the Commander-in-Chief, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
