NO MERCY FOR ROGUE COPS

PNP Chief, Director General Oscar C Calderon today vowed to "crack the whip" on all erring personnel who will not "toe the line" in the command policy of internal reform and the campaign against all forms of illegal gambling activity.

At the same time, the PNP Chief assured that the police leadership will throw the book at police personnel involved in criminal activity and irregularities. He cited the cases of two Manila Police District personnel who were arrested by their own colleagues for involvement in separate cases of heinous crime.

"This only goes to show that our internal system of cleaning the ranks is working properly, and that the good cops will always prevail over the few scalawags in uniform," Calderon said.

Calderon has directed the Regional Director of the National Capital Region Police Office, Police Director Reynaldo P Varilla, to immediately initiate Summary Dismissal Proceedings against PO2 Amado GARIANDO of MPD Station 11, tagged as brains behind the botched summary execution of Milagro Borja; and PO3 Alejandro DIAMSE of the MPD Theft and Robbery Section, suspected as protector of a hold-up and snatching syndicate in Manila.

The Chief PNP also tasked the NCRPO to thoroughly investigate a case of Serious Illegal Detention against six Pasay City policemen who were accused of forcibly bringing a 36-year old restaurant owner to a drug rehabilitation center in Tagaytay City.

"Our bold steps to clean up our ranks is paying off. Our field commanders are aware of the need to weed out the scalawags to earn the people's trust. And people are now emboldened and encouraged to report abuses and misdeeds of some cops as we saw in the latest arrest of cops involved in irregularities," Calderon said.

"The PNP will not tolerate deviant behavior among police personnel. The norm remains to be Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards", Calderon emphasized.

He announced that an office directly under the Chief PNP will be activated very soon to exclusively and directly receive complaints about police abuse and misconduct. Nobody will be spared in this drive, the Chief PNP said.
