As Chief of the Philpppine National Police, it is my reponsibility to render justice to the late Rep. Luis Bersamin Jr. and SPO1Ortega were killed while Sawadan (driver) was wounded.

I assure the family of the late Congressman, as well as his fellow members of the House of Representatives, that all efforts are being exerted for a thorough investigation of the case.
One of my policemen, SPO1 Adelfo Ortega, assigned as his personal security, was wounded while fighting to protect the congressman from the assault.

This case will not pass as mere statistics. The combined might of the CIDG, QCPD, Crime Lab, and Intel Group have been put together under a Task Force headed by PDir Jesus Verzosa to identify and prosecute the perpetrators of this dastardly act.

I have likewise ordered the PNP Regional Office Cordillera to closely monitor the situation in Abra as we are not discounting local politics as motive behind the murder.

Although there is yet any evidence to that effect, we find it prudent to take appropriate action to prevent any violent reaction from local political followers.

We have yet to find any concrete evidence also to link the murder of Rep. Bersamin to the Nov 11 murder of a close relative, Provl Board Member James Bersamin in Bangued.

The NAPOLCOM deputation of Abra Local Govt Execs to exercise supervision and control over their local police forces remain suspended. And I am recommending to NAPOLCOM to maintain status quo.

All factors and possibilities are being carefully weighed and considered by our investigators. We remain confident that we will reach a breakthrough in the investigation very soon.
