NO SPECIFIC TERROR THREAT TO ASEAN SUMMIT The Philippine National Police has not monitored any specific or direct threat to the 12 TH ASEAN Summit in Cebu City . “As far as the PNP is concerned, there is no specific and direct terror threat received in connection with the ASEAN Summit,” PNP Spokesman, Senior Superintendent Samuel D Pagdilao Jr said on Thursday. According to Pagdilao, the PNP's own appraisal of the security situation in Cebu City is further supported by the latest threat assessment from the Interpol General Secretariat in Lyons, France. Pagdilao said the Joint Intelligence Coordinating Council (JICC) is continuously monitoring the security situation and daily security assessment is being conducted. Reacting to travel advisories issue by some embassies to their citizens in the Philippines , the PNP Spokesman said these are procedural actions on the part of foreign governments. “These travel advisories of foreign governments to their citizens is borne out of its responsibility to their citizens and based on information in a nature of a general threat similar to what we have,” Pagdilao explained. He said this same general threat is what the host government is bracing itself and guarding against. Pagdilao added, summits attended by heads of state and foreign dignitaries are “natural magnets for terrorist groups due to the impact that a terrorist act will create”. |
