CALDERON APPOINTS DOROMAL AS HEAD OF ANTI-DRUG & ANTI-GAMBLING TASK FORCES

PNP Chief, Director General Oscar C Calderon has designated Chief Superintendent Edgardo Doromal as concurrent head of the task forces on anti-illegal drugs and anti-illegal gambling.

Doromal is Acting Director for Investigation & Detective Management (DIDM), one of ten Directorial Staff positions that exercises supervision over PNP units and offices tasked with investigative functions.

"My marching orders for Chief Superintendent Doromal are to produce more significant results in the campaign against illegal drugs and illegal gambling, and purge the organization of personnel involved in these illegal vices," Calderon said.

The Chief PNP further instructed Doromal to coordinate all anti-drug operations with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) as part of procedure and inter-agency protocol.

In his capacity as concurrent AID-SOTF and AIG-SOTF Commander, Doromal is directly under the Office of the Chief PNP.

Since its creation in 2004, the PNP Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Force (AID-SOTF) has been headed by the incumbent Director for Investigation & Detective Management.

The Anti-Illegal Gambling Special Operations Task Force (AIG-SOTF) on the otherhand, has been recently reorganized and likewise placed under the DIDM.

The anti-gambling task force of the Criminal Investigation & Detection Group (CIDG) has since been dissolved and its functions absorbed by the newly reorganized AIG-SOTF.

The AIG-SOTF will have for its manpower complement, ten personnel each from the Intelligence Group and Special Action Force to support its nationwide monitoring and interdiction operations.

Calderon said he expects the AIG-SOTF to sustain the momentum of successful police operations against all forms of illegal gambling activities particularly jueteng in the country.

He said the 1-3-2 Strike Policy will remain applicable to local police commanders who will be found remiss in their duty to stop illegal gambling in their areas.

Similar Task Forces are organized at the regional and provincial levels.
