MURDER RAPS FOR PNP DOCTOR

PNP Chief, Director General Oscar C Calderon said murder and multiple frustrated murder charges will be filed against a medical officer who assaulted his Commanding Officer during their unit's anniversary celebration in Camp Crame last night.

The assailant, Chief Inspector Renato POSCABLO, was himself wounded in the incident and is being treated at the PNP General Hospital under tight security.

Poscablo was subdued and arrested after detonating a grenade and shooting Chief Superintendet Federico Damatac, the Director of the Health Service and several others during the fellowship dinner of the PNP Medical Society at the Multi-Purpose Hall in Camp Crame at 11:30 PM on Wednesday.

Calderon assured that the other victims of the shooting are being attended to. He cited the heroic deed of Senior Inspector Winnie Temprosa in preventing more casualties when he used his own body as buffer to protect other medical officers from the impact of the grenade explosion. He died on the spot.

The Chief PNP said Temprosa will be given Posthumous Promotion to the rank of Chief Inspector and will be accorded full funeral honors.

Investigators from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and the Headquarters Support Service gathered that Poscablo arrived at the gathering shortly before 11:00 o'clock but immediately left.

According to witnesses, Poscablo returned several minutes later wearing a medical gown, presumably to conceal the handgun and grenade he was carrying.

Without any provocation, Poscablo fired shots at Chief Superintendent Damatac hitting the general in the back. Temprosa, rushed to protect Damatac but was also shot by the suspect.

While about to flee, Poscablo released the grenade from his left hand, and in a moment of heroic glory, the wounded Temprosa covered the grenade with his body absorbing the impact of the blast.

PO2 Francisco Castro shot Poscablo twice disabling and placing the suspect under arrest.

According to PNP Spokesman, Senior Superintendent Samuel D Pagdilao Jr., investigators are gathering more evidence to establish Poscablos' motive in shooting his superior officers.

Poscablo is undergoing schooling at the Philippine Public Safety College. He was last assigned with the Police Regional Office CALABARZON. PNP records indicate that he was reverted to the rank of Chief Inspector when his promotion to Superintendent was nullified due to some pending administrative cases.

Damatac is undergoing treatment at the St. Luke's Medical Center from a gunshot wound in the back. Also confined in the same hospital is Superintendent Ma. Angel Manas who suffered a gunshot wound in the left hand.

Undergoing treatment at the PNP General Hospital in Camp Crame are Senior Superintendent Cynthia Bughao, Superintendent Patricia Manalo, and Jason Cristobal, a waiter who provided catering services during the event of the PNP Medical Society.
