PRESS STATEMENT OF POLICE DIRECTOR GENERAL OSCAR C CALDERON, CHIEF PNP

My family and I join the officers, men and women of the Philippine National Police in expressing our deepest sorrow over the untimely demise of POLICE GENERAL CESAR P NAZARENO, the first Chief of the PNP.

General Nazareno led the organization during that crucial period of transition from a military branch to a national police force from 1990 to 1992. And it was during those decisive moments in the history of the PC/INP and the PNP when he rallied the organization behind the Constitution and the duly constituted authorities.

He is remembered as a man of unwavering loyalty who offered no compromises for organizational discipline in the ranks. This undying legacy of his will be passed on to the succeeding generation of officers and personnel of the PNP.

As the 13 th Chief of the PNP, I have high regard and respect for General Nazareno as a commander with the finest leadership qualities and a brand of patriotism that is beyond question.

On behalf of the PNP, it is with deep regret that I extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, to his classmates in the Philippine Military Academy Class 1961, to his friends and former subordinates.

As our professional obligation to a brother in uniform, the PNP will pay last respects to General Nazareno. It is our duty to afford a former commander these final honors.

His remains will lie in state at the PNP Multi-Purpose Hall in Camp Crame, Quezon City.
