METRO POLICE ROUNDS UP 332 STREETCRIME CHARACTERS On orders of PNP Chief, Director General Oscar C Calderon, the National Capital Region Police Office launched anew a metro-wide sweep of notorious personalities engaged in various forms of streetcrime. Calderon said anti-streetcrime operations must be intensified beginning this time of the year and onwards to the Christmas season when historically higher incidents of streetcrime had been recorded. In his report to Calderon, NCRPO Chief, Police Director Reynaldo P Varilla said a total of 332 persons were arrested in the latest police operations against streetcrime in the five Police Districts of Metro Manila. Varilla said the operations were conducted ahead of the All Saints' Day as preemptive move to minimize incidents of streetcrime during the forthcoming holiday. Most of those arrested were notorious personalities engaged in street-level drug pushing, robbery/ hold-up, snatching, theft, estafa/swindling, and other forms of streetcrime in the different cities and towns of Metro Manila. As the entire PNP goes on nationwide Full Alert in connection with President Arroyo's two-day official mission abroad, Varilla said the NCRPO will remain in the highest alert level until All Souls' Day. Over the past nine months, the NCRPO posted a high Crime Solution Efficiency rating of 95% by solving 3,628 of the total 3,827 reported streetcrime incidents in the entire Metro Manila. Varilla said Night Watch operations will continue without let-up, particularly during this coming holiday period and onwards until the Christmas season. "I have given instructions to the District Directors to intensify preventive patrol and police visibility operations especially in areas known to be streetcrime "hotspots" in coordination with local government authorities, private security forces, NGOs, civic groups, Barangay Tanod and civilian volunteers," Varilla said. According to Varilla, the NCR Command of the AFP has also assured full support to the NCRPO in terms of manpower and logistics. |
