COP KILLER IS ALSO SUSPECT IN MURDER OF GOVT WITNESS A primary suspect arrested for the killing of a police colonel in Zamboanga del Sur last week is also a principal suspect in the 2005 killing of a key government witness in a celebrated murder case. Mohammad MAULANA, 22, alias Madix, was arrested by police operatives in Dinas, Zamboanga del Sur a week after the killing of Superintendent Bernardo Palmero during a robbery on board a passenger van in nearby Dimataling town. While Maulana was being investigated for the shooting of Palmero, investigators found out that the suspect is the same person who is the subject of a Warrant of Arrest for the murder of high school teacher and part-time broadcaster Edgar Amorro sometime in February 2005. Amorro was a key prosecution witness in the murder of broadcaster Edgar Damalerio on May 13, 2002 in Pagadian City. Damalerio's killer, Guillermo Wapile, has since been convicted for the crime and is now serving prison sentence. Maulana, a resident of Barangay Binuatan, Dimalating, Zamboanga del Sur, is tagged by investigators as a notorious gun-for-hire operating in the province. He was arrested by police and military operatives along with Raksan ANSANG alias Sam, 26 years old, and Kudin AMIS alias Din for alleged involvement in the killing of Supt. Palmero. The Warrant of Arrest on Maulana has been served and the suspect is now committed at the Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Jail in Pagadian City. |
