PNP ROWING TEAM BAGS GOLD IN SINGAPORE MEET The PNP Rowing Team grabbed the championship crown in the just concluded SAVA Spring International 2006 Dragon Boat Races at the Bedok Reservoir in Singapore. PNP Chief, Director General Oscar C Calderon met the PNP Rowers upon their return to the country today after competing in the two-day event against 20 other international teams from different countries. Calderon commended the 29-man PNP Rowing Team led by Superintendent Dennis Agustin and Chief Inspector Gonzalo Villamor for the strong finish in grabbing the Overall Championship Award. "Our local boys have done the PNP and the Filipino nation proud. This achievement of sports excellence is indeed highly commendable," Calderon said. The PNP Rowing Team garnered three Gold Medals in the 200 and 500 meters Mixed International Open event, and 500 meters Freestyle International Open event. The team also won two Bronze Medals in the 500 meters Men's International Open and the 1,000 meters Super Cup Men's Final. It was a 1-2 overall finish for the Philippines with the Camarines Sur Team tailing behind in 1st Runner-up position with a total of three Gold Medals. The PNP Rowing Team is composed of 19 male and 10 female members with PO3 Romeo Cañete as Head Coach and Signalman; and PO2 Macario Sumallileng as Assistant Coach and Steersman. The team has seen action in several local and international competitions. |
