MORE COPS PURSUE CRIMINOLOGY DEGREESome 1,200 more police officers have earned a degree in criminology under the distance learning program of a De La Salle supervised university. Another batch of PNP personnel is now taking the course under that will earn for them the degree of Bachelor of Science in Criminology. According to Police Director Geman B Doria, PNP Director for Human Resource and Doctrine Development (DHRDD), the University of La Sallette of Santiago City, Isabela has made possible this distance learning program for PNP personnel under it Expanded Tertiary Education Equivalency Accreditation Program (ETEEAP) duly recognized by the Commission on HIgher Education (CHED) A Memorandum of Agreement was signed recently between the PNP and the University of La Sallette that will ensure continuity of the PNP-ULS ETEEAP B.S. Criminology Program. "This will be a chance for all PNP personnel to fulfill their dreams in obtaining their bachelor's degree or to have a second course. Review classes for PRC Licensure Examinations for criminologists and graduate degrees are also included in the program," PDir Doria said. The enrollment for ETEEAP is at the expense of PNP personnel however, personnel who have completed the requirements of the program can relieve themselves of attrition concerns and may look forward for opportunities for lateral entry. PNP Chief PDGen Avelino I Razon Jr lauded the HRDD and fully supports ULS in the implementation of this special endeavor. "The PNP extends all-out cooperation for success of the project. I am confident that this program will not only help some PNP personnel to accomplish the basic educational requirements but also addresses the attrition issue as well," he added. The PNP-ULS ETEEAP has already produced five batches of graduates (approximately 1,200 PNP members) from different Police Regional Offices 1, 2, 3,4A and B as well as from the NCRPO. The Opening Ceremonies for Batch 6 was held last June 29, 2008 at the PNP Grandstand. In attendance were PDir Doria, Dr Heracleo Lagrada, Chief of the Office of Programs and Standards of the Commission on Higher Education and Dr Levita M Castro, ULS Vice President for Academic Affairs and the ETEEAP Chair. |
